Denver to Cheyenne
Day 1 (July 28th) -- Wednesday
28.07.2010 - 28.07.2010
We started out at 5 AM this morning in order to get our flight at 7 AM. All flights were on time and the planes were full ! They had to take one man off the plane in New Bern because they were short one seat. Landed in Denver at 10 :25 Denver time, 12:25 Eastern time. So, we gained 2 hours. We drove to CHeyenne in about 90 minutes plus time at a Wal-Mart for some supplies. A nice new one, too. We now have our cooler packed with water, drinks, lunch stuff and snacks.
The scenery was beautiful - wide open spaces as we drove into Wyoming. We will be in Cheyenne for 2 nights. The people at the desk at this local inn have been helpful with getting me connected to their wireless network which at first I had trouble with.
Cheyenne was named for the tribe of Plains Indians that roamed southeastern Wyoming. In 1867 the Union Pacific Railroad built a depot here at the junction of several roads.
Frontier Days are in progress, ten days of non-stop activity. The "Daddy of 'em All" has been kicking up dust since 1897 with rodeos, concerts, and western entertainment. We went into town this evening to explore. It was Cheyenne Day and lots of people at the Cheyenne Depot square. We should have worn our jeans, boots, and cowboy hats in order to blend in, but alas, we looked like tourists from NC. We plan to see the parade in the morning and take the railway trolley tour tomorrow and visit some of the sites on our own.
Until tomorrow Pardners.....
